Ok. We know what you’re thinking, of course they’re going to pitch us getting the tandem skydiving video for my tandem skydive. Well, you’re right, but maybe you can give us a chance to tell you why it’s worth it.
Can I Bring My Own Camera to Video My Skydive?
Unfortunately, the short answer is no. It is a hard no because of safety. Here at Skydive Chicago, you aren’t a passive passenger going for a ride. We ask you to be an active participant on the jump – hence we call you a tandem ‘student,’ and given objectives for your experience.
Skydiving is an extreme and dangerous sport. It is important that you are focused on the jump and not distracted by a camera and trying to ‘get the shot.’ Not only for your safety, but your instructor as well.
Our national organization, the United States Parachute Association also has something to say about wearing a camera on a skydive as well for the reasons we just stated. They state:
- Tandem Instructors must at least have 200 tandem jumps prior to jumping a camera
- No Tandem Instructor or student may use any extendable or fixed pole camera mounts attached or handheld
- They also recommend that a licensed jumper have 200 jumps and training prior to jumping with a camera that is heavily enforced by skydiving centers
At the end of the day, this is all for safety for you, the instructor and the sport.
